Oscar Carozo is getting interest from Everton manager David Moyes

Everton manager David Moyes has been on a personal scouting mission to check out Benfica ace Oscar Cardozo.

The Toffees boss used a rare free weekend to make the trip to Portugal.

After watching his club’s Europa League opponents Sporting Lisbon in action on Friday, he went to see Cardozo star for Benfica against Belenenses the following day.

And the Paraguayan striker, 26, did not disappoint – scoring the game’s only goal.

Spurs, Aston Villa and Blackburn have also checked him out – but Benfica have placed a £52million release clause in Cardozo’s contract, which runs until 2014.

Moyes is also keeping tabs on Nuremberg’s left-back Javier Pinola.

Stoke are another club keen on the Argentinian, 26, who is earning rave reviews in the Bundesliga.

Everton is keen on signing LA Galaxy's Landon Donovan

David Moyes hopes to strengthen his injury-plagued Everton squad in the January transfer window with a loan move for the USA forward, Landon Donovan.

The 27-year-old, an international team-mate of the Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard, has been earmarked by Moyes as a possible addition to his attack for next month and an initial approach has been made to Donovan’s club, Los Angeles Galaxy, regarding a temporary switch to the Premier League.

Donovan was allowed to return to the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich in January of this year, having previously played for Bayer Leverkusen, and Everton hope a similar loan deal will be acceptable to the LA Galaxy following the end of their MLS season and ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

Everton is showing interest in Athletico Madrid's ace Diego Forlan

Everton boss David Moyes would love to roll out the welcome mat for Atletico Madrid ace Diego Forlan.

The Uruguayan striker, who spent two years at Manchester United, is desperate to return to the Premier League.

Forlan, 30, scored just 17 times in his 95 appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. But he is grabbing goals for fun in Spain, catching the attention of Real Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga and English sides Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.

No one has yet reached for the chequebook to sign away Atletico’s £31million asking price, much to Forlan’s frustration.

Everton, though, would be happy to arrange a loan deal to grant Forlan his wish of a return to England.

And now Mark Hughes with his Manchester City side are said to join the chase for the super talent.

It’s unlikely that Jack Rodwell will be targeted in the January transfer window, but a bid next summer is more likely.

Jack Rodwell, only 18, made his Premier League debut March last year.
